Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers Announces Five Floyd Hooker Youth Fund Grant Awardees

Sayre, PA—The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) has approved the 2024 Floyd “Vic” Hooker Youth Grants for Tioga County, NY. A total of $18,100 has been awarded to five non-profit organizations serving youth in Tioga County, NY.

These grants fulfill the wishes of Floyd “Vic” Hooker, a former Tioga County resident, whose vision for supporting youth is carried out in perpetuity through his fund at CFTT. The foundation remains committed to enhancing the health and welfare of young people in Tioga County by supporting impactful projects and programs.

The 2024 Floyd Hooker Youth Grant Recipients:

  1. Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga Counties
    Catholic Charities serves low-income and vulnerable individuals in Tompkins and Tioga Counties, advocating for social justice and human dignity. This grant will support after-school programming, including career field trips, for students across three Tioga County school districts.
  2. Corning-Elmira Musical Arts, Inc.
    A 501(c)(3) nonprofit overseeing programs such as the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and its youth ensembles, Corning-Elmira Musical Arts received funding to provide free educational concerts at libraries and schools in Tioga County, NY. These events aim to inspire children and promote music and literature.
  3. Lions Camp Badger
    Operated by the Empire State Special Needs Experience, Lions Camp Badger provides inclusive summer programs for youth with diverse abilities. The grant will support a startup event bringing together current and former campers, staff, and stakeholders to promote social interaction among people of all abilities.
  4. The Salvation Army of Tioga County, NY
    The Salvation Army, a global movement dedicated to meeting human needs without discrimination, received funding to offer a comprehensive, year-round youth program. This initiative includes character building, addressing food insecurity, music education, and providing a safe, welcoming environment for youth during the school year and summer.
  5. Tioga County Rural Ministry, Inc.
    Tioga County Rural Ministry serves the unmet needs of the poor, sick, and elderly in Tioga County, inspired by a mission of justice and compassion. The grant will help teens from low-income households purchase new clothing and shoes for the school year, boosting their confidence and helping them feel proud of their appearance.

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers serves Bradford, Potter, Sullivan, and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County, NY. It is a purely public charity, incorporated as a non-profit, that has been granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS.
