Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers Announces Five Floyd Hooker Youth Fund Grant Awardees
Sayre, PA- The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers has approved the 2024 Floyd “Vic” Hooker youth grants for Tioga, County NY. The awards total $18,100 to 5 non-profit organizations serving Tioga County, NY. The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers is committed to making an immediate impact by following the wishes of a former Tioga County, NY resident Floyd “Vic” Hooker. His commitment to the youth of Tioga County through his fund at CFTT supports youth programs in the county in perpetuity. Making a substantial impact by supporting projects and programs that will make a real difference in improving the health and welfare of our young people in Tioga County, NY.
Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga Counties, provide a coordinated network of Human Services dedicated to serving low-income and vulnerable people in both Tompkins and Tioga Counties, New York. Their mission is to support all people in need and advocate for social justice and human dignity. Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga received a grant to help provide after youth programming that engages students after school and through career field trips in three Tioga County school districts.
Corning-Elmira Musical Arts, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which was created at the merger to oversee the activities of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Junior String Ensemble, and the Doreen B. Hertzog Concerto/Aria Competition. The OSFL has been devoted to working with young people, maintaining programs created by its parent organizations. The Corning-Emira Musical Arts received funding to provide free, educational concerts at libraries and schools in Tioga County, NY to educate and inspire children and promote music and literature.
Lions Camp Badger, operated by the Empire State Special Needs Experience, Inc., is a project of Lions Clubs International Multiple District 20, encompassing New York State and Bermuda. Established as a statewide Lions project in 1980, the camp’s origins trace back to 1940 when Ralph W. Jones, a speech therapist, started a summer program for children with speech and hearing difficulties. Over the decades, the program evolved, and the camp became a sanctuary for individuals with special needs, offering enriching experiences tailored to diverse abilities. Today, Lions Camp Badger focuses on creating inclusive camping programs for youth. Their mission is to provide services that enhance educational, vocational, personal growth and independence of differently abled youth and adults. Lions Camp Badger received funds to provide funding to host a startup event that will bring together current and former campers and staff, stakeholders and grant funders for the purpose of promoting social interaction among people of all abilities.
The Salvation Army of Tioga County is a non-for-profit agency that offers social services, ministries and church programs. The Salvation Army is an internation movement, is an evangelical pert of universal Christian Church, it is based n the bible and it’s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human need in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army of Tioga County, NY received funds so they could offer an in-depth, year round youth program that helps with character building, food insecurity, music education and instruction, and to provide a sense of belonging and socialization, and a safe place during the school year and during summers.
Tioga County Rural Ministry, Inc. mission it to aspire to be a sign of Jesus’ presence by serving the unmet needs of the poor, sick and elderly of Tioga County. By calling others forth to an awareness of their responsibility in justice to answer these needs, we provide opportunities for them to respond through this ministry. We strive to make real for our time God’s love and mercy. TCRM received funds to enable teens from low-income households to purchase new back to school clothing and shoes so that they, like their peers, can feel confident and proud of their appearance as they return to school.
